Where do you keep your prize rooster when you go to church?

In the southern Philippines, villagers raise roosters to fight.  But the local churches do not allow roosters in the church.  Here is one village’s solution to the problem: A vintage bench, called gallinera, to sit on outside the church with three separate compartments underneath for villager’s prized roosters.  The bench has its original finish and is made of ironwood.  Its dimensions are 66” wide x 24”deep x 40” high (to top of finials).  It was built during the Spanish colonial period (19th century).  Item # 8AA52

 

Bring out your inner Rajah

This intricately carved vintage chair from India brings out your inner Rajah.  The legs, front, arms, and back are intricately carved and the finish is original.  All it needs to for you to hold court is a rectangular seat cushion.  Its dimensions are 28” w x 25” d x 29” h (back).  Item # 8AA53

 

Recline in style like a Madurese princess

This beautifully carved and painted bed from the island of Madura in Indonesia must have belonged to a royal family.  It dates from about 1900. Details show the carving in the middle of the frame and the carving on each end.  Item # 2050

Bed area – 24” deep x        58” wide x 12” high

End pieces – 22” wide x    20” high

Graceful Elegance with Art Nouveau

Graceful and elegant Art Nouveau bench and side chair with original finishes – circa 1920.  The bench, Item # L347, is 48.5” wide x 34” high at the back.  The side chair, Item # L347a, is 20“ wide x 16“ deep x 35“ high at the back.

Twisted Perfection

This Walnut Parlor Table, ca1860, was made by the famous Mathews Brothers in Milwaukee WI.  The Matthews brothers went on to build custom designed furniture for Frank Lloyd Wright’s houses and for the 1890s Pabst mansion in Milwaukee.  The table has its original finish and is 29.5” high x 16.25“ wide.   The photos below show the details of the legs and table supports.  Item # 1992

Stunning Cabinets to Hide Treasures

Two antique Chinese cabinets.  

The upper cabinet has two doors with painted scenes of children playing.  It was used for storing clothes and has a clothes rod and shelf inside.  The cabinet has its original finish and is 72” high x 39” wide x 23”deep.  Item # 5007.

 

Image on the right shows the details of the children from the painted panel on the right hand door.

Red is Best – Two lovely small Chinese cabinets

This photo (below right) shows the beautiful detail of the inlaid and carved rose and thistle design

 

This lovely red chest, circa 1940, is designed for dragon lovers, with beautifully painted dragons on the sides and top.  The front has five drawers and one cupboard with a porcelain insert.  It has its original finish and is 28” high x 25”wide x 14”deep.  Item # 1L264

This Chinese cabinet (Right) from the 1950s has intricately carved and painted panels and doors with porcelain inserts.  It has its original finish and measures 33.75” wide x 15” deep x 31.25” high.  Item # 1L311

This beautifully carved Chinese table with three drawers on the bottom and a two-door cupboard above is unusually deep and wide.  It has its original finish and measures 42.5” wide x 29” deep x 34” high.  Item # 5031
